As winter comes closer, the days grows darker and the office colder too. Winter is mild here in California, but the difference seems all too real—the change in clothing, the emergence of holiday specials on television, the arrival of holiday drinks at Starbucks. Even if California has no seasons, as the Easterners tell us, we do feel the change in our little ways.
Staying healthy plays an important part as we transition from season to season. There may be a compulsion to get out less. I get it. The weather is colder. The clouds are thick. It may be foggy where you live. No one wants to run, swim, or hike in mucky weather.
We like to think of the transition this way: if fall is to pumpkin spice lattes as summer is to lemonade, then the gym—the weight room—might be the pumpkin spice of exercises. Outside may be dreary, but motivation comes from the inside. We all make our rounds at wellness.
While you may catch the bad weather blues this November, remember to keep moving like it was summer. Your health will thank you.
